Pakistan Launches Investigation into Social Media Campaign Against Judiciary

Islamabad, The Pakistani government is taking legal action against those involved in a recent social media campaign targeting Supreme Court judges, reported by Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Solangi, in a news conference with officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), announced that the interior ministry had formed a joint investigation team on the 16th of this month to look into the matter. The FIA, PTA, and other relevant departments are currently monitoring several hundred social media accounts as part of their investigation.

The Information Minister urged those within and outside the country to cease such activities, warning of legal repercussions. Director General of PTA Ahmad Shamim Pirzada affirmed their authority to block and remove offending content from social media platforms.

Additionally, Director Operations of FIA, Waqar Uddin Syed, emphasized their vigilance and readiness to take immediate action against individuals involved in the defamatory campaign. The FIA is in the process of identifying social media accounts responsible for the campaign against the Supreme Court judges, ensuring that no one is allowed to diminish the public’s trust in state institutions.
