Islamabad, In an effort to boost food productivity and security, Pakistan’s Variety Evaluation Committee has recommended 10 new high-yield pulse varieties for cultivation, marking a significant advancement in the country’s agricultural sector.
According to Press Information Department, the new varieties, including NIFA Mung-24, NIAB-CH26, NIAB-CH30, NIAB-CH32, NIAB-CH69, NIAB-CH73, NARC Lentil 24, NARC Mung 24, and Mahnoor 24, were selected during a meeting at the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council. The meeting, chaired by Dr. Imtiaz Hussain, Member of the Plant Sciences Division, brought together seed certification experts and agricultural scientists to deliberate on the innovations. Dr. Hussain expressed optimism that these new varieties will significantly increase pulse productivity across the country and emphasized PARC’s ongoing commitment to supporting both public and private sectors in agricultural advancements.
Federal Minister of Industries and Production and National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer, praised the introduction of these varieties as a major milestone for agricultural development in Pakistan. He highlighted the critical need for continuous, result-oriented research to develop fine quality seed varieties. Rana Tanveer also commended the dedication of scientists and researchers involved in developing these pulses, noting their potential to greatly benefit farmers and contribute to national food security. He assured ongoing support for the agricultural sector, focusing on providing farmers with the necessary resources and technologies to increase productivity and income.
