Pakistan Identifies New Projects for Priority Sector Development

Islamabad, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema announced the identification of new projects aimed at bolstering priority sectors, including Information and Communication Technology, climate change, construction, and transport. This announcement was made during the kickoff meeting of the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) Country Programme Mission.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting, chaired by Ahad Cheema and led by Bonhyun Koo, Director of the Asia team from EXIM Bank, also reviewed the progress of seven ongoing projects worth $522 million. These projects span critical areas such as road infrastructure, information technology, and health. The minister lauded EXIM Bank for its support under the Framework Arrangement (2022-26), which encompasses $1,000 million aimed at fostering economic development in Pakistan.

Additionally, the discussion highlighted ten pipeline projects that have been shared with the EDCF, with expectations for their swift implementation. Minister Cheema emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing cooperation with the EDCF and expressed optimism about achieving greater efficiency in project preparation and implementation, which would maximize the benefits of their partnership.
