Pakistan Highlights Parallels Between Indian and Israeli Occupations in Kashmir and Palestine

Islamabad, In a significant address on Kashmir Solidarity Day, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Syed Ahsan Raza Shah, called upon international organizations and human rights bodies to recognize the plight of Kashmiris under Indian rule in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and to uphold their right to self-determination as per United Nations resolutions. The event, which took place at the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) in Kuala Lumpur, was a collaborative effort between the Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM) and the High Commission of Pakistan, emphasizing the ongoing human rights abuses and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution in Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the High Commissioner detailed the severe conditions faced by Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir over the past seven decades, describing the territory as the world’s largest open prison due to India’s oppressive measures. These include the use of rape as a weapon of war, blinding of children and youth with pellet guns, torture, illegal detentions, and the systematic erasure of Kashmiri cultural and religious identity through draconian laws.

During the event, the seven-point agenda by international Human Rights and Muslim Rights activist Cikzu Azmi Abdul Hamid was highlighted as a critical framework for achieving peace in Kashmir and ending the ongoing human rights violations. The High Commissioner also drew a parallel between the situations in Kashmir and Palestine, criticizing the brutalities inflicted on Palestinians as reflective of the similar hardships endured by Kashmiris under the Indian government’s Islamophobic and fascist policies.

International human rights activist Azmi Abdul Hameed, President of MAPIM, echoed these sentiments, stressing the continuous dehumanization of Kashmiris and likening India’s tactics in Kashmir to Israel’s actions in Palestine. The comparison aimed to shed light on the shared struggles of Kashmiris and Palestinians against occupation and to galvanize international support for their causes.

This event underscores the Pakistani government’s commitment to highlighting the Kashmir issue on international platforms, seeking global intervention to ensure the fulfillment of Kashmiri rights as enshrined in UN resolutions, and advocating for an end to oppressive regimes both in Kashmir and Palestine.
