Pakistan Highlights Concerns Over Islamic Sites in India at OIC Meeting in New York

New York, At a recent Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ambassadorial meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters, Pakistan’s Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram, raised concerns about the protection of Islamic sites in India.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador Akram specifically cited the event in Ayodhya as indicative of a disturbing rise in Hindu majoritarianism in India. He expressed concerns that this trend poses a significant threat to the well-being of Indian Muslims and the overall harmony and peace in the region.

The Ambassador pointed out that the situation in Ayodhya is not isolated, noting similar threats to other mosques in India, including the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi and the Shahi Eidgah Mosque in Mathura. He urged the U.N. Alliance of Civilizations to play a role in protecting these Islamic sites.

The issue resonated with the OIC Ambassadors, some of whom also mentioned attacks on mosques in various European countries, highlighting the broader context of challenges faced by Islamic sites globally.

This discussion at the OIC meeting reflects growing international concern over religious sites’ preservation and the need for concerted efforts to safeguard cultural and religious heritage.
