Ottawa: The Pakistan High Commission in Ottawa, in conjunction with the Bank of Punjab and the State Bank of Pakistan, organized a webinar to connect with the Pakistani diaspora across Canada. This initiative aimed to provide insights into the benefits and opportunities of the Roshan Digital Account (RDA), a program by the State Bank of Pakistan.
According to Press Information Department, the session featured panelists including Mr. Shah Faisal Kakar, Acting High Commissioner, and other key representatives from both Pakistani banks and Canadian consulates.
The webinar underscored the role of the Canadian Pakistani community, consisting of over half a million individuals who contribute to sectors such as finance, technology, and healthcare. The demand for financial products that connect with Pakistan’s banking systems was a focal point of discussion. Key aspects of the program include the RDA’s capability to allow overseas Pakistanis to open and manage personal bank accounts remotely, facilitating fund transfers and investments in Pakistan’s markets.
The event addressed the impact of remittances, with Pakistan receiving over $30.2 billion globally during the fiscal year 2023-2024, including $504.8 million from Canada. The RDA has supported over 735,000 accounts in 175 countries, with substantial financial transfers. The session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, where Mr. Salman Saeed addressed community inquiries. The Pakistan Mission expressed gratitude to the diaspora for their contributions and reiterated its commitment to ongoing engagement and support.
