Karachi, The Pakistani government has announced a stringent policy against surrogate companies using sports advertisements to mislead the public. This move, led by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, represents a significant effort to curb deceptive advertising practices in the sports sector.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has initiated several measures to tackle this issue. Media outlets have been directed to comply with an existing advisory that prohibits the promotion of surrogate companies through advertisements. Furthermore, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has been instructed to rigorously enforce relevant laws to prevent such misleading advertising practices.
In a specific action related to the ongoing Pakistan-Australia cricket series, the government has reached out to the rights holders to remove all digital placements of surrogate companies from the playing fields. This step is a part of a broader crackdown on deceptive advertising in sports.
Additionally, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been tasked with halting the operations of illegal surrogate companies that are functioning through apps and websites within the country.
These measures demonstrate the government’s firm stance on maintaining transparency and ethical standards in advertising, particularly in the context of sports, and reflect its commitment to protecting the public from deceptive commercial practices.
