Pakistan Finalizes Financing for World Bank-Funded Programs, Finance Minister Acknowledges Support

Islamabad, Caretaker Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar recently convened with World Bank Country Director Najy Binhassine and his team to finalize the funding for two significant operations in Pakistan supported by the World Bank.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting focused on additional financing of 250 million dollars for the ongoing World Bank-funded program, titled the Crisis-Resilient Social Protection Program, and the Resilient and Accessible Microfinance (RAM) Program, valued at 175 million dollars. The World Bank team briefed the Finance Minister on the RAM program’s key aspects, including its funding volume and objectives.

The discussion revealed that Pakistan’s microfinance sector has remained robust and continued to grow despite various external challenges. The upcoming RAM program is aimed at addressing the constraints within the microfinance sector and fostering a more resilient, inclusive, and expanding microfinance environment in Pakistan.

Dr. Akhtar concluded the meeting by expressing gratitude for the World Bank’s ongoing support and commitment to Pakistan’s economic and social development.
