Islamabad, June 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar, while assuring Pakistan’s commitment to the Multilateral Trading System, has called for a focus on issues that would help in coming out of the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic and preparing for future challenges.
Addressing the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization in Geneva, he said connecting Pakistan to the global supply chain is a major challenge and the government is constantly working on it. The Commerce Minister highlighted some of the challenges being faced by Pakistan in the wake of the balance of payments crisis and looming food security threats.
The Minister emphasized the need of upholding the fundamental principles enshrined in the Marrakesh Agreement to achieve the objectives of economic growth and sustainable development. He also expressed Pakistan’s commitment to active participation in developmental work that can contribute to the attainment of long-term objectives of developing countries.
