Islamabad: On the occasion of World Maritime Day, President Asif Ali Zardari of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan commended the efforts of the nation’s maritime community and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing its maritime sector. The President highlighted the critical role of seafarers, maritime professionals, and related stakeholders in ensuring the safety and efficiency of maritime transport.

According to Press Information Department, the President’s message underscored this year’s theme, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence,” emphasizing the need to implement international maritime standards effectively within national frameworks. Pakistan aims to bolster maritime safety, security, and regulatory oversight to align with its global commitments.

The President stressed the importance of investing in maritime education and training to prepare the workforce for technological advancements such as digital navigation and automation. He also pointed to the modernization of maritime infrastructure, including the implementation of a modern Vessel Traffic Management System at Port Qasim, as a step towards enhancing navigational safety and operational efficiency.

President Zardari noted the potential of a robust maritime sector to boost trade, employment, and national economic development. He called for the effective execution of international standards, supported by modern infrastructure and skilled professionals, to help Pakistan harness this potential fully.

In light of regional tensions, the President praised the courage and professionalism of Pakistan’s seafarers, who have excelled under challenging conditions.
