Pakistan Eager to Embrace Xinjiang’s Agricultural Modernization: PM

Islamabad, Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar conveyed Pakistan’s aspiration to collaborate with Xinjiang on multiple fronts, including infrastructure, economy, trade, and more, during his address to students and faculty at Xinjiang University in Urumqi this Friday. Significantly, Pakistan is keen to emulate Xinjiang’s advancements in agricultural modernization and aims to establish a joint agricultural demonstration zone to usher in contemporary farming methods.

According to a news release by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, The Prime Minister underscored the goal of strengthening ties between the industries of Xinjiang and Pakistan, particularly the Gilgit-Baltistan region. Solar energy, a prominent sector in Xinjiang, was spotlighted as a potential collaborative avenue. PM Kakar expressed a desire to bolster cultural connections with Xinjiang and extended an invitation to its residents and other Chinese nationals to explore Pakistani tourist destinations.

Highlighting the deep-rooted cultural and historical ties, he remarked that Xinjiang occupies a distinctive position in the hearts of Pakistanis. The Khunjerab border, linking Pakistan and China, signifies more than just a territorial boundary. It represents a crucial conduit for commerce, communication, and a testament to the close-knit bond shared by the two nations.

The Prime Minister highlighted the plans to transform the Khunjerab land border into an all-season passage and accentuated the necessity to enhance customs and logistics for the smooth transit of goods and people. Recognizing Xinjiang’s integral role in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), PM Kakar expressed the ambition to optimize its connectivity with Pakistan.

Reflecting on the enduring Pakistan-China relationship, PM Kakar described it as a bond solidified by mutual trust, respect, and shared aspirations. He reiterated that in a rapidly evolving global scenario, the camaraderie between the two nations remains unwavering. Emphasizing the mutual emphasis on economic cooperation, he highlighted the importance of the CPEC initiative.

In addition to his address, the Prime Minister toured the History Museum of Xinjiang University, where he was briefed on the institution’s rich 99-year history.
