Pakistan Dismisses Afghan Taliban’s Allegations, Citing Security Concerns

Islamabad: Pakistan has firmly rejected allegations from the Afghan Taliban regime, emphasizing that the accusations serve as a diversion from the core issue of terrorism emanating from Afghan territory into Pakistan.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting released a statement addressing the situation, highlighting that blaming Pakistan’s security institutions fails to address the Taliban regime’s responsibility in preventing the use of Afghan land for terrorist activities against Pakistan. The Ministry pointed to reports from the UN Security Council’s Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, which have documented the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, including the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The U.S. Lead Inspector General’s Operation Enduring Sentinel report to Congress for early 2026 has also indicated that the Afghan Taliban continues to permit TTP operations from Afghan soil, contributing to increased attacks on Pakistan. The report estimates the TTP’s strength to be between four to six thousand fighters, emphasizing the severity of Pakistan’s concerns regarding terrorist sanctuaries on Afghan territory.

The Ministry further stated that assertions from the Afghan side claiming a lack of capability or interest in destabilizing Pakistan do not adequately address these documented issues. It highlighted incidents such as cross-border infiltration attempts by armed terrorists, the killing of Afghan nationals during counter-terrorism operations, and the recovery of foreign-origin weapons as matters requiring close scrutiny.

Concerns have also been raised over alleged support by Afghan Taliban officials, particularly in Kandahar, for terrorist groups. The Ministry insists these matters demand credible explanations and decisive action rather than broad denials. Pakistan’s security measures, the Ministry clarified, are targeted against terrorist threats and not aimed at the Afghan populace, stressing that stability in both nations is interconnected.

The statement concluded with a call for the Afghan Taliban regime to cease any support for terrorist organizations and ensure Afghan territory is not used for attacks against Pakistan. It highlighted that portraying Pakistan’s security concerns as hostility towards Afghanistan will not resolve the issue, and stressed the importance of verifiable actions to address the terrorism challenge for peace to prevail in the region.
