Islamabad, During the UN Security Council meeting addressing the current situation in the Middle East, Pakistan reaffirmed its robust censure of the Israeli airstrikes and military undertakings in Gaza. The nation emphasized the importance of observing international humanitarian law, particularly in light of the reported assaults on civilians and crucial infrastructure by Israel.
According to a news release by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, articulated the nation’s stance, spotlighting the gravity of Israel’s actions, such as their attacks on civilians, blockades restricting the flow of essential resources like water, food, and fuel, and the forced relocation of individuals from the occupied territories. He underscored that such actions blatantly defy international humanitarian regulations and qualify as war crimes. Akram further emphasized the imperative of holding the instigators of these heinous crimes accountable.
Additionally, Munir Akram pointed out the fallacy of equating the actions of Israel, the occupying entity, with those of the Palestinians, who are at the receiving end of this occupation. He stated that any attempt to draw parallels between the two is implausible from legal, moral, and political perspectives.
Akram ardently appealed for an instantaneous and unqualified ceasefire. He underlined that prolonged Israeli occupation is unlikely to engender peace in the sacred territory. Instead, he advocated for the internationally recognized two-State solution, which envisions the establishment of a protected, feasible, adjoining, and sovereign state of Palestine. This proposed state would be founded on the territorial outlines existing before June 1967, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif serving as its capital.
