Karachi: Pakistan Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport have intercepted two attempted drug smuggling operations, seizing narcotics valued at Rs. 114 million. The seizures occurred at the International Mail Office in Karachi.
In the first incident, officials discovered 1.69 kilograms of marijuana concealed within a parcel labeled as containing “Amulets.” The package originated from Thailand and had an estimated street value of Rs. 52 million.
In a separate case, customs officers uncovered 1,945 MDMA pills, commonly known as ecstasy, hidden in a parcel described as a “Vacuum Cleaner.” This consignment arrived from Belgium and was valued at Rs. 62 million.
The rise in global e-commerce has led to an increase in cross-border shipments, raising concerns about the potential for drug trafficking through postal channels. Criminal networks are reportedly trying to exploit this system to transport illegal substances.
Pakistan Customs credits its vigilant officers with the successful interception of these narcotics, highlighting their ongoing efforts to prevent illicit drugs from entering local communities.
The agency remains committed to maintaining stringent measures against narcotics smuggling, including heightened scrutiny of international mail.
