Pakistan, Cuba agree on bilateral cooperation on issue of women empowerment

Islamabad, March 17, 2022 (PPI-OT): Pakistan and Cuba have agreed on bilateral cooperation on the issue of women empowerment. The understanding came at a meeting, virtually at UN Headquarters, between Secretary General of Federation of Cuban Women Ms Teresa Amarelle and Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women Nilofar Bakhtiar.

 

They also discussed the need of inculcating women-sensitive legislation in the countries to ensure gender parity and women empowerment. Ms Nilofar Bakhtiar also held a Group of Friends meeting on Gender Parity with UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres. The meeting mainly focused on greater engagement of women in resolving climate change issue since they are majorly affected from its repercussions.

 

Other bilateral meetings held at UN headquarters involved discussions on gender parity and women empowerment between Chairperson NCSW and first women Vice President and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Colombia Marta Lucia Ramirez. Another meeting involved Secretary General of Women Council Jordan, Dr Salma Nims and Chairperson NCSW discussing the importance of issues related to women empowerment with special emphasis on opportunities and progress of women in Islamic world.
