Pakistan Criticizes India at UN for Atrocities Against Minorities and Calls for End to Repression

New York, In a recent address to the UN General Assembly, Pakistan condemned India for its treatment of Muslims, Christians, and residents of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, urging the international community to intervene to end what it describes as systemic repression.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram, detailed a broad spectrum of human rights abuses under the current BJP-RSS government, which took power in 2014. Ambassador Akram characterized these actions as fueled by the ideology of Hindutva, leading to widespread violence and discrimination against minorities. He highlighted the severe implications of such policies not only for the affected populations but also for regional stability, including the risk of nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan.

Ambassador Akram also focused on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, describing the conditions there as a direct result of Hindutva extremism. He criticized the Indian government’s actions following the unilateral changes made on August 5, 2019, which he claimed have led to severe human rights violations including mass detentions and extrajudicial killings. He stressed the need for a resolution to the Kashmir issue through a plebiscite under UN auspices as per Security Council resolutions.

The Pakistani envoy’s speech also touched on India’s broader regional and international behavior, accusing it of sponsoring terrorism and targeted killings beyond its borders, aimed at destabilizing Pakistan and interfering with its economic projects. He called on the UN to take serious steps to ensure the protection of religious sites and prevent further religious and cultural erasure by the Indian authorities.

Ambassador Akram urged the international community to recognize the gravity of the situation and act to prevent further escalation and suffering in South Asia.
