Pakistan conveys strong protest to India over custodial death of Hurriyat leader 

Islamabad, October 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan has conveyed its strong protest to India over the custodial death of illegally detained senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Altaf Ahmad Shah, in the Indian custody. Foreign Office Spokesperson in a statement said, the Indian Charged ’Affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today, and conveyed Government of Pakistan’s strong protest over the inhuman custodial death of Altaf Ahmad Shah, who had been illegally detained in Delhi’s infamous Tihar jail since 2017.

He deplored that the Indian government didn’t pay deed to Pakistan’s serious concerns over the fast deteriorating health of Altaf Shah and his daughter’s letter to the Indian Prime Minister informing him about the precarious health condition of the incarcerated leader. He demanded an immediate and impartial investigation into the custodial death of the Hurriyat leader to hold all those responsible for the brutality accountable. He also demanded of the Indian government to hand over the dead body of Altaf Shah to his family so that they can accord him a proper burial.

The Spokespersons recalled the reprehensible custodial death of Hurriyat leader Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai last year, after his arrest under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA). He conveyed the Indian Cd’A Pakistan’s grave apprehensions regarding the inhuman treatment meted out to Hurriyat leaders including Masarrat Aalam Butt, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and Aasiya Andrabi – facing illegal detentions in fabricated cases. He said that many of these leaders were suffering from various ailments and required urgent medical attention.

The Spokesperson called upon the Indian government to desist from unlawfully keeping the Kashmiri leadership hostage and immediately release all political prisoners. He also urged India to halt its state terrorism in IIOJK and allow the people of IIOJK exercise their right to self-determination as per the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and their wishes.
