Islamabad, Pakistan has voiced its support for the United Nations Secretary-General’s decision to invoke Article 99 of the UN Charter, addressing the UN Security Council about the critical situation in Gaza.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, In a weekly media briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, as reported by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, stated that the Secretary-General’s decision reflects a responsible assessment of the dire situation in Gaza. Baloch emphasized Pakistan’s strong condemnation of Israel’s continued use of force and indiscriminate acts against civilians, a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
The Foreign Office Spokesperson underscored the grave danger faced by civilians in Gaza and the urgent need for an international intervention to prevent a humanitarian crisis. Pakistan joins the UN Secretary-General in calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and protection of the people of Gaza from potential genocide.
Baloch also highlighted the necessity for an international conference to address long-term peace in the region, advocating for a two-state solution with a sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-June 1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Addressing the recent legislation passed by the Indian Parliament concerning Jammu and Kashmir, Baloch labeled it as a continuation of India’s occupation, denying the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination. She reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
