Islamabad: A high-level committee meeting on the revival of sick industrial units was convened under the directive of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, chaired the session, emphasizing the government’s focus on export-oriented manufacturing.
During the meeting, Khan stated that reviving sick industrial units aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision. He highlighted the essential role of industrial development in national progress and the potential of Pakistan’s manufacturing sector. Khan stressed the urgency of making non-functional units operational.
The committee identified key challenges hindering the revival, such as expensive financing, high utility costs, and excessive taxation. Khan underscored the importance of not only reviving these units but also ensuring their sustained performance. He promised to propose solutions and oversee their implementation.
To address financial issues, the committee proposed the formation of a Banking Sub-Committee, appointing Muneer Kamal as its convener. The committee’s new responsibilities include identifying sick units and drafting policies for their revival.
The next committee meeting is scheduled for ten days from now.
