Pakistan Commits to Reducing Nitrous Oxide Emissions in Fertilizer Industry

Islamabad: The Ministry of Climate Change today signed the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG) Statement of Undertaking (SoU), formalizing Pakistan’s commitment to reducing nitrous oxide emissions within its nitric acid industry. This commitment was marked by a ceremony attended by the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, who highlighted the significance of aligning Pakistan’s environmental actions with global emissions reduction goals.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the SoU enables a fertilizer plant in Multan to receive financial support from NACAG for the installation of catalyst technology to mitigate nitrous oxide emissions. This support will include both the mitigation technology and the necessary measuring systems to monitor emission levels.

Romina Khurshid Alam emphasized that the SoU aligns with Pakistan’s broader greenhouse gas reduction strategy, which is in line with international climate agreements. She underscored Pakistan’s commitment to environmental sustainability and to addressing the impact of industrial emissions on climate change.
