Pakistan Commits to Biodiversity Preservation, Honors Wildlife Protectors


Islamabad: Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, has called for a unified effort to conserve Pakistan’s biodiversity and wildlife habitats. Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate World Ranger Day, Alam highlighted the vital contributions of wildlife rangers, guards, and watchers in protecting Pakistan’s natural heritage.



According to Press Information Department, the event not only recognized the dedication of these conservationists but also marked the inauguration of the Pakistan Wildlife Protection Awards. Alam commended six individuals from regions including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan for their bravery and commitment to safeguarding wildlife. The ceremony featured the launch of a wildlife photography book and a documentary on the snow leopard, illustrating the rich biodiversity of Pakistan.



Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, along with other dignitaries like Anna Balance from the British High Commission and Norwegian Ambassador Per Albert Ilsaas, attended the event. They joined in honoring the awardees, who received commendations, field kits, and cash prizes for their conservation efforts.



The event underscored the ongoing challenges posed by climate change to Pakistan’s ecosystems and emphasized the crucial role of community and governmental support in bolstering wildlife conservation initiatives.
