Islamabad, August 18, 2021 (PPI-OT): Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Asad Majeed Khan says Pakistan is closely monitoring the situation in Afghanistan and is working closely with international community to get to the point of recognizing the government that emerges in the wake of Taliban takeover of Kabul.
In an interview with CBS News, he said the reports coming out of Kabul indicate that Taliban are listening to the international community. The Pakistani envoy said he is sure the international community will also hold Taliban to the promises and commitments they have been making about forming an inclusive government and upholding human rights.
He said Pakistan has all along been supportive of the peace process and it has played a key role in bringing Taliban to the negotiating table. The ambassador said Pakistan firmly believes that representation from all ethnic groups is vital for an inclusive government in Afghanistan to bring about sustainable peace in the country.
