Islamabad: Pakistan’s High Commission in London commemorated the nation’s 78th Independence Day with a vibrant celebration, also marking the triumph of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos and observing ‘Marqa-e-Haq’. High Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Faisal raised the Pakistani flag accompanied by the national anthem. The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by messages from the President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister.
Dr. Faisal honored the sacrifices of the nation’s founders, emphasizing their unity in achieving independence. He drew parallels to the nation’s united front during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, where Pakistan overcame a larger adversary. He acknowledged the immeasurable debt owed to martyrs and veterans. Dr. Faisal also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to supporting Kashmiris in their pursuit of self-determination.
The High Commissioner stressed the significance of unity within the Pakistani diaspora in the UK and praised the contributions of British Pakistanis in strengthening bilateral relations. He encouraged youth and overseas Pakistanis to participate in Pakistan’s economic advancement.
Dr. Faisal announced the imminent resumption of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flights to the UK and the establishment of a Pakistan-UK Trade Dialogue to bolster economic ties. He also conferred the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) upon Commodore Jawad Khawaja, Pakistan Navy’s Defence and Naval Advisor in London, on behalf of the President.
The festivities included prayers for Pakistan’s progress, patriotic songs, musical performances, and a children’s painting competition. The High Commissioner and guests participated in a cake-cutting ceremony. Attendees included UK parliamentarians, diplomats, community members, journalists, and High Commission officials with their families.
