Islamabad: Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day was commemorated at the High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi. Mr. Saad Ahmad Warraich, Pakistan’s Chargé d’ Affaires to India, raised the national flag during a formal gathering on the Chancery Lawns. High Commission personnel, their families, and other attendees were present. Messages from the President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister were read aloud.
During the flag hoisting, Mr. Warraich paid tribute to the struggle for freedom, emphasizing the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the creation of Pakistan. He underscored that independence was achieved through sacrifice and must be continually protected. He asserted Pakistan’s ability to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Mr. Warraich highlighted Pakistan’s advancements over the past 78 years and praised the sacrifices made by those who defended the nation. He reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to regional peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing the resolution of disputes, including the Jammu and Kashmir issue. He cautioned against approaches based on dominance and control, advocating for sovereign equality and mutual trust as the foundation for regional progress.
Children dressed in traditional clothing presented performances reflecting the independence movement’s history. The Chargé d’Affaires, his spouse, and other mission officials cut a celebratory cake to mark the occasion.
