New York: Pakistan has reiterated its call for expanding the number of non-permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council to enhance its effectiveness, representation, and accountability. This stance was articulated by Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, during discussions with delegates in New York.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Akram emphasized the need to avoid establishing new centers of privilege within the United Nations. He argued that no countries could justifiably claim an unequal status under the U.N. Charter, dismissing the idea of adding new permanent members to the Security Council. Akram’s comments reflect Pakistan’s ongoing position on reforming the U.N. body to ensure a more equitable global governance structure.
