Pakistan calls for launching awareness campaigns to counter rising tide of Islamophobia

Islamabad, October 23, 2022 (PPI-OT): At the United Nations, Pakistan has called for international cooperation to counter the scourge of disinformation, which has become a global pandemic. Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Press Counsellor at the Pakistan Mission to the United Nations Mariam Shaikh said Pakistan has been the victim of such targeted campaigns.

She said Pakistan is committed to countering the virus of disinformation by all possible means through national and international cooperation with Member States and other stakeholders under the umbrella of the United Nations. The Pakistani delegate also drew attention to hate speech, discrimination and violence against Muslims in several parts of the world and urged Department of Global Communications to launch awareness campaigns to counter a rising tide of Islamophobia.
