Pakistan Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza, Condemns Restrictions on UN Agency

Islamabad: Pakistan has renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and demanded the continuation of unhindered humanitarian assistance to address the ongoing crisis in the region. This appeal was made in the context of recent actions by Israel aimed at limiting the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Foreign Office has publicly condemned Israel’s attempts to impede UNRWA’s activities, labeling these actions as violations of international law and the UN Charter. The office criticized the move as part of a broader, systematic campaign by Israel to block essential humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, exacerbating the severe conditions faced by residents of Gaza.

The statement also urged the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to ensure that UNRWA can continue its critical work without interference. The importance of UNRWA’s role was underscored by Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, who highlighted on social media that any reduction in the agency’s function could lead to dire humanitarian and regional consequences.

Pakistan’s steadfast stance comes amid escalating tensions in Gaza, where the need for international intervention to halt what it describes as Israel’s “genocidal campaign” against the Palestinians is becoming increasingly urgent.
