Pakistan Calls for Global Efforts to Address Conflict Causes at UN Security Council

New York: In a recent address to the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan called for global efforts to tackle the fundamental causes of conflict and promote sustainable peace. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, highlighted the interconnectedness of poverty, exclusion, inequality, and the denial of fundamental rights as significant contributors to global conflicts.

During the Open Debate on Poverty, Under-development and Conflict: Implications for the Maintenance of International Peace and Security, Ambassador Ahmad emphasized that these issues extend beyond mere developmental concerns. He argued that they are structural causes that must be addressed to ensure long-term peace.

Ambassador Ahmad stressed that without tackling these root causes, peace initiatives are likely to remain incomplete and unstable. He urged the international community to focus on comprehensive strategies that address these underlying drivers to achieve lasting peace.

This call for action underscores the importance of a holistic approach to peacebuilding, aiming to create a more equitable and just global society.
