Pakistan calls for boosting efforts for sustainable recovery in coronavirus-hit countries

Islamabad, June 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):At the United Nations, Pakistan has called for boosting efforts for sustainable recovery in the coronavirus-hit countries and to accomplish the UN’s 2030 agenda, aimed at ending poverty in all its forms.

This was proposed by Acting Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the world body, Aamir Khan, while speaking at the annual session of the Executive Boards of three UN funds and programmes, on behalf of the Group of 77 developing countries and China. The Executive Boards represented at the session were UN Development Programme, UN Population Fund and UN Office for Project Service.

The Pakistani envoy said low vaccination rates in the Least Developed Countries, combined with mounting debt challenges, accelerating inflation, and rising food insecurity means a long and arduous path towards recovery. He said it will require about one trillion dollars annually to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the forty six Least Developed Countries.
