Islamabad, Pakistan and Azerbaijan have pledged to deepen their strategic relations and expand cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest. This commitment was reiterated during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, held in Islamabad on Wednesday.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the two ministers agreed to enhance bilateral ties in trade, investment, energy, security, defense, education, climate action, and regional connectivity. They also discussed the progress of their bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues.
Further agreements were made to increase parliamentary exchanges, strengthen cultural ties, and promote interactions among students, academics, and businessmen. Both sides recognized the need to identify new economic cooperation areas and to boost efforts in climate action and renewable energy, with a particular focus on increasing bilateral investments in the energy sector. The critical role of the Joint Working Group on Energy in fostering energy sector cooperation was also highlighted.
During the discussions, Deputy Prime Minister Dar expressed Pakistan’s full support for Azerbaijan during its presidency of the upcoming COP29. The meeting also touched on bilateral cooperation at various multilateral forums, including recent regional and global developments, specifically the situation in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Dar commended Azerbaijan for its stance on the Jammu and Kashmir issue and congratulated it on the restoration of its sovereignty over the Karabakh region. Both nations agreed to continue their collaboration within the frameworks of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
