Pakistan, Azerbaijan Commit to Deepen Ties, Explore New Cooperation Avenues

Islamabad, Pakistan and Azerbaijan have pledged to enhance their bilateral cooperation in key sectors including economy, trade, energy, connectivity, and people-to-people contacts. This commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Islamabad today.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Acting President highlighted the longstanding, historical ties between the two nations, rooted in shared culture and religion. He pointed to the Multan-Sarai in Baku as a symbol of the centuries-old relationship, suggesting that Baku and Multan be declared sister cities to further strengthen these bonds.

The discussion also covered the potential for expanding trade and business relations, with both leaders expressing satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and commonalities in views at various international fora. Gillani emphasized the importance of educational and parliamentary exchanges, as well as improving connectivity to bring the two countries closer together. He advocated for increased people-to-people contacts, particularly in tourism, business, and education.

For his part, Foreign Minister Bayramov underscored the importance of the bilateral relationship, calling for enhanced cooperation in economic, trade, and business sectors. He agreed that increased connectivity and people-to-people contact are crucial for strengthening the bilateral ties.
