Pakistan Assumes UNSC Presidency Amid Global Crises


New York: Pakistan has taken on the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the current month, positioning itself at the helm during a period of heightened global conflicts and humanitarian emergencies. In a statement on social media, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to the UN Charter, international law, and the principles of multilateralism.



Dar highlighted the urgency of the global situation, noting that Pakistan’s presidency occurs amidst escalating tensions worldwide. He pledged to guide the Security Council towards effective actions rooted in dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful resolution of disputes. Pakistan aims to collaborate with all UN members to achieve inclusive and action-oriented outcomes.



Throughout the month, Deputy Prime Minister Dar will chair two high-profile events focusing on international peace and security through multilateralism and the peaceful settlement of disputes. Additionally, he will lead discussions on cooperation between the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and preside over the quarterly open debate on Palestine.



Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding advocacy for dialogue and diplomacy. He stated that Pakistan’s approach in the Security Council is shaped by its foreign policy and historical contributions to international peace and security, including peacekeeping efforts.



Khan noted that Pakistan has adopted a transparent and consultative process in formulating the Council’s agenda for the month. He acknowledged the complex challenges to international peace and security across various regions and stressed the need for a responsive and credible Security Council to address these issues effectively.
