New York: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has declared that the country is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in response to India’s recent aggressive actions. Speaking at a news conference, Ambassador Ahmad emphasized Pakistan’s vigilant monitoring of the situation and the potential for seeking a United Nations Security Council meeting when deemed necessary.
Ambassador Ahmad stated that Pakistan views the Security Council as having the mandate to address the situation and asserted that it would be appropriate for any Council member, including Pakistan, to request a meeting. He highlighted the legitimacy of such actions under the Council’s purview.
In response to a question regarding the offer by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to mediate between India and Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad expressed Pakistan’s support for the initiative. He noted that Pakistan has consistently welcomed and cooperated with peace efforts facilitated by UN Secretaries-General.
