Pakistan asks India to investigate custodial death of Hurriyat leader

Islamabad, October 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan has asked the Indian government to conduct an immediate impartial investigation into the custodial death of Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Altaf Ahmed Shah and punish all those responsible for the tragedy. The Foreign Office Spokesperson addressing the weekly press briefing in Islamabad, today, expressed deep grief over the inhuman custodial death of the Hurriyat leader. He also strongly condemned the extra-judicial killing of two more Kashmiris by Indian troops in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Spokesperson expressed concern over the latest incidents of violence and hostility perpetrated by Hindutva extremists against Muslims in India, during the recent Hindu festivals. He pointed out that this violence is yet another manifestation of the growing ‘saffron terror’ that has deeply permeated the Indian society.

The Spokesperson urged the international community to hold India accountable for its crimes against humanity in IIOJK and to take cognizance of the rapidly deteriorating situation of Islamophobia in India that posed serious threat to the safety and security of Muslims and other minorities in the country.

The Spokesperson also maintained that resolution of all outstanding issues between Pakistan and India, including the Kashmir dispute, is important for the development and progress of South Asia. He said Pakistan has consistently been advocating the need for resolving in accordance with the UN resolutions the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, which is a major impediment in the way of normalization and friendly relations between the two countries as well as for the development of the people of this region.
