Pakistan Army Chief Engages US Officials on Bilateral and Regional Security Matters

Islamabad, General Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, engaged in pivotal discussions with top US Government and Military officials during his visit to the United States. The talks focused on various aspects of bilateral interests, regional and global security concerns, and ongoing conflicts.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Army Chief’s meetings included interactions with key figures such as US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of Defense Llyod Austin, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer, and Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Q Brown.

The discussions were marked by a mutual agreement to continue engagement and explore further opportunities for bilateral collaboration, aligning with shared interests. A significant emphasis was placed on counter-terrorism cooperation and defense collaboration, identifying these as core areas for joint efforts.

General Munir stressed the importance of mutual understanding of regional security dynamics and strategic stability in South Asia. He highlighted the critical nature of resolving the Kashmir Issue, advocating for its settlement in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

During his interaction with the Pakistani diaspora, General Munir lauded their contributions towards Pakistan’s progress and development. He encouraged their investment through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), highlighting its success in various sectors.

He also addressed the significant role of the US as Pakistan’s largest export market, constituting 21.5% of total exports, and dispelled concerns regarding visa processes and detentions.

The Pakistani community members expressed their pride in the Pakistan Army’s role in national well-being. General Munir’s meeting with Tanweer Ahmed, who donated nine million dollars to the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) for IT development, underscored the diaspora’s impactful contributions.

General Munir’s visit signifies a vital step in reinforcing Pakistan-US relations, particularly in defense and security cooperation, and fostering a deeper understanding of regional challenges and opportunities.
