Pakistan Applauds UN’s Legally Binding Instrument on Development Rights

Islamabad, 15 Oct 2023: Pakistan has expressed its endorsement and satisfaction at the United Nations over the successful conclusion of a legally binding instrument concerning the right to development. This significant measure is believed to be instrumental in addressing the prevailing developmental challenges across the globe.

Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, voiced this support while addressing the General Assembly’s Third Committee, responsible for social, humanitarian, and cultural subjects. Jadoon emphasized that the General Assembly’s approval of this binding instrument represents a monumental stride toward ensuring the right to development for populations that have been marginalized.

Furthermore, Jadoon extended his praise to the pivotal role played by the former Pakistani Ambassador, Zamir Akram, in formulating the draft covenant that enshrines the right to development as a fundamental human right.
