Islamabad: A delegation from the World Bank Group met with Pakistan’s Planning Minister, Ahsan Iqbal, in Islamabad to discuss strategies for sustainable economic growth in the country. The discussions focused on increasing exports, transitioning to renewable energy, and enhancing public-private partnerships.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Planning Minister Iqbal emphasized the government’s new Uraan Pakistan 5Es National Transformational Plan aimed at boosting the economy. The plan’s first emphasis is on an export-led growth strategy, with a target of raising exports to sixty billion dollars over the next five years.
Minister Iqbal highlighted the importance of moving from fossil fuels to renewable and green energy sources. He also stressed the role of women in the economy, noting government initiatives designed to ensure their active participation in economic activities.
In the context of climate change, Iqbal called for innovative financial solutions to help vulnerable countries like Pakistan cope with environmental challenges. He pointed to the floods of 2022 as an example of the urgent need for development-focused approaches.
The meeting also addressed strategic issues related to the World Bank Group’s ongoing engagements in Pakistan, which aim to support the country’s pursuit of inclusive and sustainable growth. The World Bank delegation’s visit seeks to strengthen collaboration between the international financial institution and Pakistan, particularly in fostering sustainable economic development.
