Pakistan and US Pledge to Improve Intellectual Property Policies

Islamabad, Pakistan and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing policies, laws, and regulations related to Intellectual Property.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a high-level visit of the US delegation led by IP Counselor for South Asia John Cabecca at the IPO-Pakistan Headquarters in Islamabad, both sides discussed future collaborations. The Pakistani delegation was led by Chair IPO Farukh Amil and Director General Shazia Adnan.

Chair IPO Farukh Amil emphasized the role of patents, trademarks, and copyrights in economic growth and highlighted IPO-Pakistan’s initiatives to improve the country’s Intellectual Property Rights regime. The establishment of two new IP tribunals in Quetta and Rawalpindi, with approval for two more, was also discussed.

John Cabecca informed that the US is working on capacity building in South Asia and acknowledged Pakistan as a safe place for US companies to invest. He pledged to provide training and technical assistance for capacity building in Pakistan.
