Islamabad, Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan held a meeting with the British Minister of State for Health, Andrew Stephenson, to discuss enhancing bilateral health cooperation. The meeting focused on various aspects of health sector collaboration between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
According to Press Information Department, Dr. Jan expressed gratitude for the UK’s ongoing support in various health sectors in Pakistan. The British Health Minister acknowledged Pakistan’s achievements in the nutrition sector and discussed the continuation of the malnutrition program, including the establishment of plants in Pakistan for producing nutritional supplements. This initiative, involving a partnership with the Kirk Foundation and Junaid Family Foundation, aims to transfer technology to Pakistan, enabling the country not only to meet its nutritional needs but also to become a global exporter.
Dr. Jan extended an invitation to the British Minister to participate in the Global Health Security Summit scheduled for January 10-11 in Islamabad, which will host top health leaders and delegations from different countries. Dr. Jan proposed that the British Government consider co-hosting this summit. In response, the British Health Minister expressed interest and promised to respond to the offer soon.
The British Health Minister also assured full cooperation with Pakistan’s health security agenda. Dr. Jan highlighted ongoing reforms in Pakistan’s health sector, with a focus on Universal Health Coverage. He mentioned the ambitious plan to upgrade five hundred basic health units across the country within the next two months, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive health coverage for its citizens.
