Pakistan and UK Commit to Enhanced Coordination on Global Arms Control

Islamabad, Pakistan and the United Kingdom have pledged to strengthen their collaboration on arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation during the 6th round of the Pakistan-United Kingdom Dialogue held in Islamabad. This commitment aims to bolster global and regional security measures and address emerging technological threats.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the dialogue was co-led by Additional Foreign Secretary Ambassador Mohammad Kamran Akhtar of Pakistan and Ambassador Stephen Lillie, Director of Defence and International Security at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, United Kingdom. The discussions covered a wide range of topics including the military use of artificial intelligence, peaceful applications of nuclear technology, and issues pertinent to various international disarmament platforms such as the UN General Assembly’s First Committee, the Conference on Disarmament, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Both nations shared insights on the current global and regional security environments and reiterated the importance of continued dialogue. They agreed to hold the 7th round of consultations next year in London on a mutually agreed date, underlining the ongoing significance of these discussions in their bilateral relations.
