Pakistan and U.S. Seek to Strengthen Economic and Diplomatic Ties: Ambassador Masood Khan

Washington D.C, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Masood Khan, emphasized the potential for strengthened economic and diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the U.S. during a comprehensive address at the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia.

According to Press Information Department, Ambassador Khan detailed the opportunities for increased U.S. investment in Pakistan, particularly in technology, renewable energy, agriculture, and extractive industries. He highlighted Pakistan’s role as a critical player in regional stability and its robust human capital, noting the country’s significant contributions to the global market, including its status as a major producer of soccer balls and surgical instruments.

During his speech, Ambassador Khan called for the full restoration of Foreign Military Financing and Foreign Military Sales to support the ongoing fight against terrorism and stressed the importance of maintaining a strategic balance in South Asia. He criticized the U.S. for its heavy tilt towards India, which he argued could lead to regional instability.

Khan also discussed the pivotal role Pakistan could play as an economic bridge between the U.S. and China, reflecting on historical precedents from the 1970s. He underscored the need for a result-oriented dialogue with India, given the absence of structured talks since 2014.

The ambassador’s remarks were part of a broader discussion on re-calibrating Pak-US relations to focus more on economic partnership while continuing cooperation in counter-terrorism and regional stability. He also highlighted the increase in Pakistani students in U.S. universities as a sign of deepening people-to-people ties.
