Pakistan and U.S. Enhance Counterterrorism Efforts in Joint Dialogue

Islamabad, Senior officials from Pakistan and the United States convened in Washington DC for the Pakistan-U.S. Counterterrorism Dialogue on May 10, 2024, aimed at bolstering efforts against regional and global security threats.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the dialogue was co-chaired by Ambassador Syed Haider Shah, Pakistan’s Additional Foreign Secretary for the UN and OIC, and Ambassador Elizabeth Richard, U.S. Department of State Coordinator for Counterterrorism. The discussions focused on cooperative measures to combat threats from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and ISIS-Khorasan.

Both sides emphasized the need for expanded counterterrorism collaboration, including technical exchanges, investigative support, and enhanced border security training. Over 300 police and frontline responders have been trained through these initiatives since the previous dialogue in March 2023. The officials agreed to continue this strategic partnership to address transnational terrorism threats and enhance both regional and global security.
