Pakistan and Türkiye Strengthen Energy Ties with New Exploration Agreements


Islamabad: Pakistan and Türkiye are set to enhance their bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, focusing on offshore and onshore exploration and critical minerals, according to a meeting held between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Türkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Irfan Neziroglu.



Minister Malik expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s support during the India-Pakistan conflict, highlighting the enduring bond between the two nations. He conveyed gratitude from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and emphasized the mutual respect and brotherhood shared by both countries.



Ambassador Neziroglu acknowledged the strong ties between the nations, noting Pakistan’s responsible handling of regional tensions. He emphasized the historical and cultural connections that continue to unite Pakistan and Türkiye, particularly among the youth.



The meeting underscored the potential for joint ventures and technology transfer in the petroleum and mineral sectors. Minister Malik announced that Türkiye’s state-owned Turkish Petroleum Corporation has been provisionally awarded two onshore blocks in Pakistan’s recent bidding round. These include the Ziarat North block in Balochistan and the Sukhpur-II block in Sindh, with varying joint venture partnerships.



Ambassador Neziroglu reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan, particularly in energy and mining. He praised Pakistan’s efforts to attract foreign investment and expressed optimism for future collaborations that could boost economic growth for both nations.



Both parties agreed to expedite discussions on joint exploration projects and the development of critical minerals, which are essential for industrial and technological progress.
