Pakistan and Tajikistan Forge Deeper Ties in Labor and Industrial Collaboration

Islamabad: A pivotal meeting took place on September 23, 2024, between the Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OP and HRD) and key Tajik representatives including Tajikistan’s Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Sharifzoda Yousuf Toir, and the Director of the Agency for State Material Reserves, H.E. Mr. Ahmadzoda Nurmahmad. The discussions aimed to bolster bilateral relations through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Labour Mobility and the exchange of industrial expertise, particularly in the garment, stitching, and shoe-making industries, as well as in horticulture and gardening.

According to Press Information Department, this strategic alignment is set to enhance the movement of skilled professionals and workers between the two nations, facilitating mutual growth in several key economic sectors. Under the MoU, Pakistan plans to export experts and designers to aid Tajikistan’s burgeoning garment and textile industry, while simultaneously drawing on Tajik expertise to meet its own increasing demand for skilled labor in horticulture and gardening.

The Federal Minister for OP and HRD highlighted the significance of this agreement, noting, “This MoU will open up a new chapter in Pakistan-Tajikistan relations. By leveraging our respective strengths in key industries, we are creating opportunities that will benefit the economies and workforce of both countries.” Furthermore, the Tajik ambassador expressed enthusiasm for importing skilled Pakistani labor, particularly for enhancing their local garment, stitching, and shoe-making sectors.

In a move to solidify this burgeoning partnership, the Honorable Director from Tajikistan extended an official invitation to the Federal Minister for OP and HRD to visit Tajikistan. This visit is intended to deepen cooperation across various sectors including vocational training and technology transfer, further contributing to the socio-economic development of both nations. The Federal Minister accepted the invitation, affirming Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening these bilateral ties and ensuring the MoU’s successful implementation during the upcoming visit.

Both parties have agreed to maintain regular consultations and follow-up meetings to guarantee the smooth execution of the initiatives agreed upon during this meeting.
