Pakistan and Sweden Strengthen Ties, Focus on Governance and Human Rights


Islamabad: In a meeting aimed at bolstering bilateral relations, Swedish Ambassador Ms. Alexandra Berg von Linde met with Pakistani Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar to discuss potential areas of collaboration and the importance of maintaining open dialogue between the two nations.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussion covered a range of topics, including efforts to combat the global rise of Islamophobia, with Minister Tarar commending Sweden’s proactive approach to promoting tolerance and understanding. Ambassador von Linde emphasized the significance of open dialogues for enhancing mutual understanding and reaffirmed Sweden’s dedication to strengthening relations with GSP Plus countries, including Pakistan.



Minister Tarar also outlined Pakistan’s initiatives aimed at improving governance, particularly in politics, press freedom, and the judiciary. He highlighted the recent establishment of a commission dedicated to the protection of journalists, showcasing the government’s commitment to protecting fundamental human rights.



The meeting also addressed gender equality, with Minister Tarar noting ongoing procedural reforms to safeguard women against domestic violence, underscoring Pakistan’s dedication to gender justice.



Both parties expressed optimism about the future of collaboration, anticipating continued constructive dialogues on various issues of mutual interest, which could lead to stronger bilateral relations and shared progress on critical global issues.
