Islamabad: A meeting at the Parliament House between the Pakistan-South Africa Parliamentary Friendship Group and South African diplomatic representatives underscored a collective commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation across various sectors.
According to a statement by Senate of Pakistan, the meeting was chaired by Senator Syed Ali Zafar and attended by South African officials including H.E. Mr. Mxolisi Phila Radebe, Acting High Commissioner, and H.E. Mr. Brian Witbooi, Political Counsellor. The discussions focused on shared values and the importance of fostering bilateral relations, with Senator Zafar welcoming the South African delegation and emphasizing the significance of mutual cooperation.
During the meeting, Ms. Misbah Khar, Secretary of the Friendship Group, announced the upcoming Pak Trade Development event in May 2025, inviting South African participation. Discussions also highlighted cultural connections, trade restrictions, and collaborative efforts in sectors such as agriculture, textiles, and technology.
Senators addressed various issues including the challenges faced by Pakistani expatriates in South Africa and the potential for collaboration through international platforms like BRICS and the G20. The South African representatives reiterated their commitment to diplomatic respect and strengthening ties, while addressing concerns such as xenophobia and illegal immigration.
The meeting concluded with Senator Zafar proposing further dialogue through an online meeting with South African parliamentarians, aiming to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the bond between the two countries.
