Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Pledge to Strengthen Ties and Address Regional Challenges


Islamabad, In a significant diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on April 7, 2024, at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah Al-Mukarramah. The leaders discussed a broad range of issues, from enhancing bilateral relations to addressing regional and global challenges, particularly the situation in Gaza.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting began with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extending congratulations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his assumption of office and expressing good wishes for his tenure. In response, Prime Minister Sharif conveyed his gratitude for the Kingdom’s ongoing support and hospitality, reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening bilateral and economic cooperation with Saudi Arabia.



The discussions emphasized the importance of fortifying the fraternal relations between the two nations and exploring opportunities for increased collaboration across various sectors. Both leaders committed to expediting the implementation of a previously discussed investment package worth $5 billion, aimed at enhancing trade and investment ties.



The leaders also deliberated on regional and global developments, including the distressing situation in Gaza. They called for international efforts to stop Israeli military operations, alleviate the humanitarian crisis, and emphasized the need for the international community to pressure Israel to halt hostilities, comply with international law, and ensure unimpeded access to humanitarian aid in Gaza. Furthermore, they discussed the advancement of the peace process based on relevant United Nations resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, highlighting the goal of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.



Another critical aspect of their discussion was the emphasis on the importance of dialogue between Pakistan and India, particularly in resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, to ensure peace and stability in the region.



The meeting concluded with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inviting the Crown Prince to undertake an official visit to Pakistan, an invitation that was accepted by the Crown Prince. The engagement marks a commitment by both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to deepen their bilateral relations and jointly address challenges affecting the region and beyond.
