Pakistan and Qatar Strengthen Ties on Climate Resilience Initiatives


Islamabad: Pakistan’s climate resilience efforts received a significant boost following a meeting between the Coordinator to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, and a high-level technical delegation from Qatar led by Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al-Abdullah. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in various sectors affected by climate change, including environment conservation, water management, and disaster risk management.



According to Press Information Department, The meeting, held at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, covered a range of topics critical to both nations. Romina Khurshid briefed the Qatari delegation on the Prime Minister’s initiatives aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s climate resilience and addressing the challenges posed by global warming. These challenges include increasing heatwaves, floods, land erosion, and sea-level rise. The meeting underscored the urgent need for international collaboration to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.



Colonel Ahmed Abdullah Al-Abdullah commended Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts towards climate risk management and disaster preparedness. He confirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting Pakistan through technical and non-technical assistance in crucial sectors such as health, education, food security, water, and energy, which are significantly impacted by climate change.



Romina Khurshid Alam expressed gratitude for Qatar’s pledge to support Pakistan’s climate initiatives, emphasizing the importance of such international partnerships in achieving sustainable development and protecting vulnerable communities from the harsh realities of climate change.
