Pakistan and Oman Pledge to Foster Religious Harmony and Tolerance

Muscat: In a pivotal meeting aimed at fostering global peace and interfaith understanding, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-Faith Harmony, emphasized the critical need for Pakistan and Oman to collaborate in promoting religious harmony, tolerance, and peace. This call comes amid increasing religious intolerance and sectarianism worldwide, with both nations seeking to strengthen intercultural dialogue and unity.

According to Press Information Department, during his three-day visit to Oman, Minister Hussain met with Mohammed bin Said bin Khalfan Al-Mamari, Oman’s Minister of Auqaf and Religious Affairs, to discuss strategies to counteract extremism and promote mutual respect and tolerance. The discussions highlighted the urgency of dialogue between different religions and cultures to secure a peaceful global environment.

The meeting also explored several cooperative initiatives, including the exchange of scholars and religious experts, joint conferences on significant religious issues, and enhancements to the religious education curriculum to reflect contemporary Islamic teachings. Moreover, the ministers agreed on establishing student exchange programs focusing on Sharia, Quranic studies, and Islamic history between the religious institutions of both countries.

Minister Hussain also commended the efforts of Oman’s security forces in responding to a mosque attack in Muscat earlier in July, underscoring the importance of effective security measures in maintaining religious peace.
