Pakistan and Marshall Islands Form Diplomatic Ties, Eyeing Broader Cooperation

Islamabad, Marking a significant development in international relations, Pakistan and the Marshall Islands have formally established diplomatic ties, a move aimed at fostering cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the formalization of these ties was officiated through the signing of a Joint Communiqué by Pakistan’s Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, and his counterpart from the Marshall Islands, Ambassador Amatlain Elizabeth Kabua, in New York. During the ceremony, Ambassador Akram described the establishment of diplomatic relations as an auspicious occasion and highlighted Pakistan’s view of the Marshall Islands as a crucial country in the Asia-Pacific region.

He noted the significant role both countries played in establishing and operationalizing the landmark Loss and Damage Fund at COP28. Ambassador Akram expressed optimism that this new diplomatic relationship would lead to deeper bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Amatlain Elizabeth Kabua echoed these sentiments, stating her country’s readiness to engage in cooperation across various fields. She also acknowledged and appreciated the support of Pakistan’s Permanent Representative for small island nations at the United Nations.

This development marks a new chapter in diplomatic relations, opening doors for collaboration between Pakistan and the Marshall Islands in diverse areas of mutual interest.
